Dylan Quercia AKA Coach Q President of the Southern California Chess Federation (SCCF). They have been teaching students for over 20 years, has been playing chess for over 25 years, and is currently ranked as an Candidate Master (expert). Coach Q recently won the U2100 section at the 2016 National Open and scored in the top 25 in the 2015 US Open. They are the editor of SCCF's Rank & File magazine and a contributor to US Chess through Chess Life online. They attended the University of Illinois at Chicago and holds a B.S. in Biological Sciences. While in college, they worked with National Master Ilya K. teaching chess to students in Chicago. After college, they moved to Los Angeles with their wife. In Los Angeles, they worked for a major non-profit and built a chess program with over 4000 students a year. They have a goal to reach many more students and instill in them a love of the royal game!
